Appreciation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Art Appreciation introduces the student to the importance of art in today\u2019s world and the purposes art has served from prehistoric through modern times in a variety of cultures both Western and non-Western.<br \/>\nAt the conclusion of this course, students should be able to<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recognize and comment on different aspects of visual works such as painting, sculpture and architecture.<\/li>\n<li>Recognize and describe elements and principles of design in any artwork.<\/li>\n<li>Identify artists of the past and present and recognize and identify their works.<\/li>\n<li>Relate works of art to their historical and cultural settings.<\/li>\n<li>Express their own opinions through critique and discussion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Homework and Reading Assignments:\u00a0Students will read constantly, one or two chapters (if not more) per week in <i>Art in Focus<\/i> for discussion in class.\u00a0 Homework assignments include a critique and an original artwork with an oral presentation.\u00a0 In-class discussions are not graded for participation but are the basis for the essay questions on the tests.<\/p>\n<p>Art Appreciation
